Renovating new house at lowest cost possible.

We closed on our new home on 15DEC2011 and on 16DEC2011 we started renovating. The house was a foreclosure and we purchased it for a very good price of $45,000. It is a 3 bedroom 2 bath house with a one car garage attached.

Day one: My husband gets busy ripping up the carpet in the living room (only to find linoleum under the carpet!) while I rip up the carpet from the stairs (to find there is a 1 1/2 in gap from the stairs to each side of the wall and I can see the garage when I walk up the stairs!). The carpet was disgusting! The carpet was so nasty! My hands smelled like vinegar soaked urine! YUCK! Once we completed that, he ripped up the carpet from the 3 bedrooms upstairs while I carried it all downstairs. (I think I got the worse end of the deal on that one.) We also ripped up the linoleum that was in the kitchen floor to find..... MORE LINOLEUM. Once we had a second look at the living room, we noticed the linoleum didn't look just right in some spots so we cut it open to find a cracked foundation! MANY CRACKS! One went from one side of the living room to the other and one stretched almost the length of the dining room and kitchen!

After we get that all done, we go to Lowes to pick out the paint. We spent about $500.00 on paint, primer (cause the room upstairs was painted Crimson RED! I'm Roll Tide all the way, but DAMN!

We got the paint picked out, took it back to the house, cleaned up and called it a day. I was so ready to call it a day! (Thank goodness we are staying with his mother until all this is complete! She is THE BEST mother N law a gal could ask for and we come home to hot coffee, a hot shower, a hot home cooked meal and great conversation before turning into bed!
