Day 55
10 FEB 2012
I have not updated the blog in a few days. Last night I was at the hospital with a family member (nothing major, just dehydration). Let’s see where I was the last time I we talked……
Ahhh yes, the countertops. Well, hubby screwed the countertops together (if you don’t know how that is done, there are kinda like grooves on the bottom of the countertops and you put the screws in, as you tighten the screws, it pulls the countertops together). So he glued the countertops together and then tightened the screws. We had a long piece and then the short piece that made up the whole right side countertop but it has a corner on it. It was EXTREEMLY heavy and hard to maneuver because it is such an awkward shape and the fridge wasn’t helping us any by being in place already. Well, we almost got it up and SNAP! Oh yeah! That wasn’t me snapping that time, it was the countertop! Only the back part of it snapped, where you put the screws, no big deal. I just couldn’t hold it anymore and it was leaning and it just wasn’t working. My bad! J No need in crying over snapped countertops. Hubby just has to understand, he can’t work me like he would a man. Lol
So before we put in the countertops (had to tell you that story first because it was more exciting lol) hubby was going to install the sink, get the icemaker hooked up and get the dishwasher hooked up. Well, after I made two separate trips to get the right stuff and STILL didn’t have everything we needed, I made a THIRD trip to Lowe’s. lol Finally got everything we needed (and by “we”, I mean “he”). Hubby installed the plumbing for hot water and cold water to the sink (the white fittings are for cold water ONLY and the other fittings are for both cold AND hot water for all of you who don’t know and have always wondered) lol So he got hot and cold water hooked up only he had it backwards. We BOTH thought the way it was hooked up was backwards because when the cold water line felt hot so we thought the hot water was running to it. It was actually just the hot water from the water heater draining. So once he did that, he had to und o everything and rehook everything back up. He got the hot and cold water lines hooked up and the water to the ice maker hooked up and it was leaking. It took him a while to get ti to stop leaking but he did it. That is when we started on the countertop. It was after 11PM when we left the house.
Today we went over there and I put a second coat of paint on the sairway and he put the right side countertop together. Tomorrow will be the left side countertop and installing the sink and dishwasher. I cannot wait to take photos of my new sink! It is beautiful! Until then, here is a photo of my counter top just sitting on the cabinets not installed yet. The fridge is pulled away from the wall and the dishwasher and sink are not in yet. Also, the slide in stove is not installed into the island yet. Once we get the island in, we are ordering two taller cabinets to go behind the stove and installing a breakfast bar on top. That way I can put all my canned goods in those cabinets and utilize them as a pantry! I am so excited! It is amazing to see what all we have created in our new home! I hope y’all are enjoying our adventure as much as we are. J Till tomorrow …..
