Day 61

Day 61

16 FEB 2012

Today me and hubby went to the house and he cleaned out the garage and loaded the truck up with trash while I cleaned the house. The movers are coming tomorrow with our household goods so today will be the last post until we get all of our furniture in and we get backsplash and molding for the kitchen.

We could not seal the tile today because we have to wait 48 hours before doing that. It was not such a long night. I think we left the house at 7:00PM. But we got there at 1:30.

We get home and my mother n law has steak with noodles, broccoli, cauliflower, carrots and rolls for dinner! YUP! Still the best. Lol

Well, I promised y’all I would have photos tonight, so here you go ……….

P.S. Don’t freak out about the toilet in the bathtub, hubby put it there to tile the bathroom. Lol

Day 57

 Day 57

 12 FEB 2012

I am going to make this short and sweet because I am dead beat! I spent the day/night in the hospital with a relative (just dehydration, nothing major) night before last. Today I went to the house when I left the hospital at 11:00 a.m.

In the past 2 days, hubby has installed the sink, hooked up the water to the ice machine, the dishwasher and installed the slide in stove. This ,may not sound like much but the sink was missing a part so he had to go to Lowes, he needed another piece, so he had to go to Lowes, he needed new piping so he had to go to Lowes…… you see where I’m going with this right. Tonight when he installed the slide in sink and got electricity running to it, he cut the breaker on and then cut the oven on and ……… wah-la!!!! It worked! In the past two days he has also installed the countertops. He has been VERY productive and got the kitchen COMPL….. wait…. Not complete yet. Sorry, I got carried away but it is as complete as it can be for right now. We are getting two cabinets to go behind the slide in stove that will be taller with countertop on top to make a breakfast bar and a pantry space behind the stove! Dixie Salvage had to order them so they will not be in for about a month. Also, we need to get crown molding for the top of the cabinets and tile for the backsplash that will go all the way around the top of the countertops.

Tomorrow I will be at the hospital again so I will not update the blog. I hope these are enough photos to last you all until Tuesday. Till then …….

PS ..... My husband just read the blog and informed me I wrote "Slide in sink" instead of "Slide in stove". DUH, I think folks could figure that out; I mean, you can't plug in and cut on a sink! lol He is lucky I love him and am tired ...... not that I could do anything about it cause he IS stronger than me. lol I ♥ him soooo much :) Hope you all are enhoying the blog.  *enjoying

Day 55

 Day 55

10 FEB 2012

I have not updated the blog in a few days. Last night I was at the hospital with a family member (nothing major, just dehydration). Let’s see where I was the last time I we talked……

Ahhh yes, the countertops. Well, hubby screwed the countertops together (if you don’t know how that is done, there are kinda like grooves on the bottom of the countertops and you put the screws in, as  you tighten the screws, it pulls the countertops together). So he glued the countertops together and then tightened the screws. We had a long piece and then the short piece that made up the whole right side countertop but it has a corner on it. It was EXTREEMLY heavy and hard to maneuver because it is such an awkward shape and the fridge wasn’t helping us any by being in place already. Well, we almost got it up and SNAP!  Oh yeah! That wasn’t me snapping that time, it was the countertop! Only the back part of it snapped, where you put the screws, no big deal. I just couldn’t hold it anymore and it was leaning and it just wasn’t working. My bad! J No need in crying over snapped countertops. Hubby just has to understand, he can’t work me like he would a man. Lol

So before we put in the countertops (had to tell you that story first because it was more exciting lol) hubby was going to install the sink, get the icemaker hooked up and get the dishwasher hooked up. Well, after I made two separate trips to get the right stuff and STILL didn’t have everything we needed, I made a THIRD trip to Lowe’s. lol Finally got everything we needed (and by “we”, I mean “he”). Hubby installed the plumbing for hot water and cold water to the sink (the white fittings are for cold water ONLY and the other fittings are for both cold AND hot water for all of you who don’t know and have always wondered) lol So he got hot and cold water hooked up only he had it backwards. We BOTH thought the way it was hooked up was backwards because when the cold water line felt hot so we thought the hot water was running to it. It was actually just the hot water from the water heater draining. So once he did that, he had to und o everything and rehook everything back up. He got the hot and cold water lines hooked up and the water to the ice maker hooked up and it was leaking. It took him a while to get ti to stop leaking but he did it. That is when we started on the countertop. It was after 11PM when we left the house.

Today we went over there and I put a second coat of paint on the sairway and he put the right side countertop together. Tomorrow will be the left side countertop and installing the sink and dishwasher. I cannot wait to take photos of my new sink! It is beautiful! Until then, here is a photo of my counter top just sitting on the cabinets not installed yet. The fridge is pulled away from the wall and the dishwasher and sink are not in yet. Also, the slide in stove is not installed into the island yet. Once we get the island in, we are ordering two taller cabinets to go behind the stove and installing a breakfast bar on top. That way I can put all my canned goods in those cabinets and utilize them as a pantry! I am so excited! It is amazing to see what all we have created in our new home! I hope y’all are enjoying our adventure as much as we are. J Till tomorrow …..

BEFORE AND AFTER TILE IN MAN CAVE

Tuesday, February 7, 2012

Day 52

Day 52

7 FEB 2012

Today me and hubby went to Fort Payne to take the countertops back so they could cut them again to fit. They were a little too large.

We had lunch on the way back home. We got to the house and hubby started putting ¾ inch spacers on the countertops so that they would go flush with the wall. (Since the walls are not squared). I went to Lowes to get clear silicon, nails and something to hook the kitchen sink up with. I also had to go to Wal Mart for some items.

I get to Wal Mart and get what I needed and then head to Lowes. While in Lowes, I look at cabinet pulls for the bedroom and then head over to get the kitchen sink stuff he needed. I grabbed one thing a ma jig and 5 feet of tube stuff and head for the check out. I get to the car and call hubby. CRAP! I forgot nails!!!! I go BACK into Lowe’s and get nails and head back down the mountain to the house. I get there and show him what I got. DUH!!! I needed TWO thing a ma jiggers for the sink. One for HOT water and one for COLD water! OH Noooo! And then hubby asked for the silicon so we could put the countertops on …….. Ummmm….. wellll….. DANG! I forgot that too!! What the heck did I even go to Lowes for? Lol

We called it an early night and hubby took me for a date night. (In my sweat pants, Aeropostale shirt and thermals underneath, we had to the Japanese restaurant. See, here in the town of Mayberry, THAT is acceptable. J We have a very nice dinner and head home. Shortly after ….. WA-LA! HERE I am updating you on what we did! Lol Tomorrow the plan is to get the countertop for my island, install the countertops, get the ice maker and kitchen sink hooked up. Till then ……..
No photos to update but I KNOW how y'all BEG me for photos all the time so here are some I took here in G-ville. Enjoy J
