Day 17
01JAN2012
It was so hard waiting for midnight to get here last night. Me and hubby sat outside on mom N laws back porch and watched fireworks. (She lives on top of a mountain that looks over a few cities) and it was beautiful. What a way to bring in the New Year; just me and my babe!
Needless to say, we got a late start today. I didn’t set the alarm and when I woke up, it was 11:00! I called hubby and he had just left not to long before that so I didn’t feel near as bad.
Hubby sealed the living room tile today! What a process! For all of you who are wanting to know the process for laying tile from start to finish. (We had to look it up before we started because we had never done it before). :
1.) Clean floor.
2.) Mix mortar according to instructions.
3.) Lay mortar over a small area of floor and place tile on top of it.
4.) Place spacers in between tile and make sure the tiles are straight and even on top.
5.) Continue doing this until floor is complete.
6.) Mortar needs 2 hours to dry (I believe).
7.) Tiles have to set for 48 hours before you can start sealing (if on a concrete slab) If you are laying tile on something else, I do not know the process.
8.) Once you are ready to seal the tile, you pour the sealant into a bottle with a roller on it and roll in between each tile! Wait ten minutes (so you can only do ten minutes worth of tile). After ten minutes, apply another coat of sealant. You will apply THREE coats in all. Once you apply third coat, go back over with a cloth and clean up excess sealant that got onto the tile.
The tile will be ready to walk on in 2 hours and completely cured in 24 hours.
So hubby sealed the living room tile today and I kept time for him. Nothing makes time go by faster like staring at a clock. (That was sarcasm).
While keeping time for my hubby, I got bored and decided to clean the inside of the garage doors. They were AWEFUL! (I cleaned them with all purpose bleach in the spray bottle and a scrub brush. Then went over it with a clothe soaked in bleach water and then wipped dry with paper towels). Photos below are of hubby sealing the living room floor and before and after of what the garage door looked like.
Hubby starts work tomorrow, so we will only be able to work at night after he gets off work. I hope things will go as smoothly as it had thus far.
Looking forward to the rest of the improvements on the house! Getting closer!!
