Day 46

Day 46

31 JAN 2012

Today I got to the house about 10. I had to wash a load of clothes before I left. I started sanding the first stair and it looked like the sander was going too deep. I called hubby and he said he would come by on his lunch break and look at it. So I didn’t sand any more after that.

I went upstairs and started painting the bathroom. URG! I HATE painting! I had to tape the shower, the vanity, light fixture and then paint the wall close to the ceiling. It was very time consuming and annoying. I got the “fill in” painted and got the tape pulled off.

Hubby came in and said the stair I had done looked ok and that I could go ahead and do the rest of them. After he left, I started on the stairs. I got those sanded and another coat of poly on them.

Once I got that done, I went back upstairs to finish painting. I managed to step on the top of the paint lid, spill paint in the sink AND drop the radio in the paint bucket! All in a days work people, all in a days work! After I finished painting, I turned the shower on to rinse the paint and guess where the shower was pointed? RIGHT AT ME! I got soak and wet. It was like a cartoon in the bathroom today but the color turned out FAB-U-LOUS!!!!

Hubby came in after he got off of work and sanded the cabinets down. (The refrigerator would not fit so he had to sand down the “lip” of the cabinets for it to fit). After he got that done, we pealed the plastic off of it and he put the handles on it. Then we went upstairs and measured for linoleum.

I headed home and he peeled off the blue tape on the wall from where they marked the studs in the wall.

We also had to call today and tell the movers not to bring our household goods on the 7th. We just will not be ready. L He scheduled it for the 17th instead. It’s coming along pretty good though. Tomorrow will be another coat of poly on stairs and painting the bathroom. Or I might just do the stairs and call it a day. Here are the photos I have been promising y’all.

Day 45

 Day 45

 30 JAN 2012

Yesterday I went to the house at about 9a.m.. I got the outside of the front door painted (it needed it badly), I also got three more doors upstairs painted and the hardware put back on them.

I also (against my hubbys wishes for me NOT to use poly) lol sanded the stairs and put another coat of poly on them. (I think after seeing more paint on me than on the walls upstairs, he was afraid of what they would look like. J I was soooo scared! I finished the first one and thought, “well, too late to turn back now”.

After that, I cleaned the bathtub as well as I could, took the trash to the road and then headed home for our “family dinner night”.

Tonight me and hubby went to house to see extent of the damage I did to the stairs. After seeing the stairs, we went to Lowe’s. We picked up paint for the downstairs bathroom and upstairs bathroom. We also picked up a new shower head and new sander with sandpaper. He said I could go ahead and sand the stairs and put the 3rd coat of poly on them since I did such a good job! YEAHHHH! Let me give myself a smiley face for the good work I did! J

So tomorrow, I will sand and poly the stairs, paint one more door upstairs and try to get at least one bathroom painted. We also looked at linoleum for the upstairs bathroom and “man cave” tonight and vanity for downstairs bathroom.

Better get in bed early tonight; I have a long day ahead of me tomorrow! I just want to say thank-you to all of you who are following my blog and sorry I haven’t updated in a few days. We have just been sanding and poly’ing the stairs and risers. There are 16 stairs all together so it will be a long process.

Day 43

DAY 43

28 JAN 2012

Today we got the appliances delivered to the house. I got most of the doors upstairs painted and hubby worked on the stairs some more.

Day 38

Day 38

23 JAN 2012

Today was a long day. Hubby went to work early this morning, then me and mom in law went to Fort Payne Alabama to get counter tops (or so we thought). We went by the marina to get the truck and the sink. (I had to take the kitchen sink to Dixie Salvage so they could cut the counter tops around it.)

We got to the Marina and picked up the truck, (on an empty tank oooof course). Lol Got gas and headed to Fort Payne. I had to use my GPS to get there because I didn’t know the way. We got to the top of the mountain (the direction the GPS told me to go) and then all of a sudden the GPS was telling me to “make a U-turn” and go back DOWN the mountain! WHAT! You just told me to come UP the mountain! Figured out what the problem was. Killer, (mom n laws dog) (and yes, I even gave the dog an alias) J had stepped on the GPS. The GPS went to the home screen and then when he stepped on it again, he pressed the “take me home” button. I guess he didn’t want to make the long trip to Fort Payne. Lol

We were already at the bottom of the mountain so decided to stop at Krystals (well, not STOP but the drive thru). Of course Killer had to have his own burger J He is not spoiled at all! (sarcasm) J

We get to Dixie Salvage and (oh yeah, before I tell you about that, I have to tell you that when we put (and by “we” I mean hubby and guy one) but anyways….. when we put in the cabinets, the lady at DS had given us a full size cabinet to go over the sink. It wouldn’t work! TOO LARGE! They also did not give us the small cabinet that goes over the refrigerator. But they didn’t charge us for it either. Also, my island consists of the drop in stove and a cabinet on each side. THAT IS NOT GONNA WORK! If I were cooking and something boiled over, it would go onto the floor! URG! I was just so happy that Alan agreed to give me a new island that I didn’t even think about it. Lol

So now then …… We are in DS and I tell the lady about the cabinet and she asked if I brought it back. NO! We already stained and poly’d it! So she gave me both cabinets we needed AT COST. We came up with a plan to fix the island and decided to give it a bar top. Of course this means more work for hubby. I did NOT want more work for him but can’t have food boiling over onto my beautiful hardwood floor!

We got the cabinets and dropped the kitchen sink off. It will take 2 days for them to cut the countertop to fit it. So, that is on delay.

Hubby went to the house and got the risers sanded and second coat of paint on them. He also got the cabinets we brought back from Fort Payne stained. Then he came home to some home made potato soup I made. J It turned out to be the best potato soup I EVER MADE! And of course he is so sick that he couldn’t taste it! Lol All in a days work.
(OH YEAH) Yesterday I forgot to say that I carried all the hard wood from the living room to the upstairs to get it out of the way and so it could aclimate. I also got the "man cave" cleaned up, the Harley room cleaned up and the living room cleaned! Starting to look like a home!

Day 37

DAY 37

 23 Jan 2012

Today me and hubby went to house to work on the stairs. A couple of folks reading the blog have been very excited about this because they are planning on redoing their stairs as well. I promised to give step by step instructions with photos but we did not complete them yet; with bad weather coming and not enough wood to do the risers. As soon as we complete the risers, I will post the directions on that and then the foot boards will be next. (Risers are the part you actually see, not the part you step on).

Tonight is supposed to be bad, bad weather with possible tornadoes and hail. Hubby is extremely sick, so all in all, not a good day. I hope I have nothing to update tomorrow cause that will mean he actually got some rest J

Day 36

Day 36
21 JAN 2012

Today hubby knocked off at the marina at 1300 to go to the house to get the cabinets up. Hubby and guy 1 got most of them in today. It is starting to look like a kitchen and I can finally see how all the colors are coming together! I see I didn’t do too badly on that. J
These are photos of how the kitchen has transformed. From having a few cabinets, to no cabinets, a new paint and finally, the new cabinets in. (This is not all the cabinets and the breakfast bar and island is not in yet). I think it is coming along beautifully!

Day 34

Thursday 19 JAN 2012

In the last few days it has just been sanding the master bedroom floor and kitchen floor and applying more polyurethane. Can’t get too much done with all the fumes in the house. There has also been sanding on the cabinets and poly applied to those. Tonight me and hubby went to the house and sanded the cabinets and applied the last coat of poly. And by “we”, I mean he did and I watched. I don’t think he trust me with poly and a brush after seeing my painting skills.

We called today to schedule the movers to deliver our furniture. (It has been in storage since we moved here from Kentucky). They are going to deliver them the first week in February.

The cabinets will be installed this weekend and then appliances will be delivered on the 28th instead of the 21st. Looks like we should be moved in and unpacking the second week of February.

We still need chair rail for the Harley room and the stripes still need to be painted in the pink room. We also still need to take up the linoleum in the “man cave” and the upstairs bathroom and replace it but that shouldn’t take long.

The stairs are also going to be replaced prob before this weekend or over the weekend. I still need to stencil the risers. (The part of the stairs you see when you are at the bottom of them). My plan is to paint the risers black and stencil words on them. From the top to the bottom it will say “Life aint always beautiful but it’s a beautiful ride”. It was either that or a phrase from and old Waylon song that says “I’ll always miss dreaming my dreams with you”. That would be in memory of my dad. Still not sure which one I am going to do. I’m sure it will come to me though.
Here is the finished floor in the master bedroom and in the kitchen and hubby sanding and poly'ing the cabinets tonight.

Day 31

Monday 16 JAN 2012

Well, today was a lazy day. I woke up at 9 but stayed in bed until 9:30. The only reason I got up then was because I felt I was about to pee myself. Lol Brother and sister n law stopped by today and I was still in my jammies. I tried to say we were having a pajama party but no one fell for it.

I didn’t get to the house until hubby got off work. When I got there, guy 1 was sanding the floor getting it ready for second coat of poly. The master and kitchen both got their second coat of poly tonight.

I painted the window frame, jam, whatever you wanna call it. I also painted the door frame in the VS room. That was about all I got done besides painting the wall that slants up to the ceiling a light color of pink. Hubby helped me tape and went over the wall where I dripped paint. J

I think we needed an early night. Mother n law had a bad headache so we ate Arbys for dinner. Tomorrow will be the third and final coat of poly and appliances get delivered on Saturday. Goal is to move in on the first of February. We shall see.

This is two photos of the same room. It was hard to get a true color photo late at night. It is actually very pretty and is not complete yet. I am going to paint 6 or 8 inch stripes on the walls to make them look like the VS bags. It will go perfect with my VS bedding :) So the photos are not the true color of the room.

Day 30

Sunday 15 JAN 2012

Today hubby got up and went to work as usual; me and “Lydia” slept in. I didn’t get up until 9 and she got up at 8:30. We met hubby for lunch and then headed to the house. We actually got a lot done for such a late start.

When we got to the house, guy one had already put polyurethane on the kitchen and master bedroom.

I have decided that bedroom number one (the smaller of the two is going to be stripped in two different colors of pink like the Victoria’s Secret bag. (Princess pink and fairytale pink). J Spare bedroom number 2 is going to be the Harley room (Orange and grey with diamond plated chair rail).

We got started on spare bedroom number one. We put the base coat on it and it was VERY Pink! Pepto pink!

I decided to use that as a secondary color and pick out a liter pink to paint the other stripes. We were going to get started on the Harley room but I also changed my mind about the color in there. I was planning on using the grey we used in the man cave but decided it wasn’t dark enough so we headed to Lowes to have them dye the paint for yet a third time!

When we got to Lowes, I picked out a lighter shade of pink for bedroom number 1 also. We got our two gallons of paint and headed back to the house.

We got both bedrooms painted. It was a task to get both of them painted in one day. Especially since we didn’t start until after lunch and the ceilings in the Harley room are 15 foot high.

Hubby got there just in time to help us cut in the paint in the Harley room. We finished painting the Harley room and headed home to mother n laws for THE BEST chili I have EVER had! WOW! It was awesome!

“Lydia” is headed back home to Dothan, Al. She was a great help this weekend! We got so much done; so much that I would not have been able to do myself. Not to mention I got to have some girl time also.

I am tired, very tired. Tomorrow the guys will sand the floors and put a second coat of poly on them. The house is all coming together so nicely!

I have to say, I am so very proud of my hubby! Not only has he trusted me to decorate our home the way I wanted, but he has also agreed to let me try to create a “girlie” room and a Harley room. He is THE hardest working man I have ever met in my life! Working the marina from early morning until right before the sun goes down and then heading to the house to complete our home. He is the best! I cannot wait till we get our babies out of the kennel, get our furniture moved in and turn this house into a home!

Day 29

Sunday 15 JAN 2012

Today me and “Lydia, the tattoo’d lady” got up early. Hubby was already gone when we got up. Hubby got up before the roosters and went to Huntsville to get the sander for the floor in the kitchen and master bedroom. He dropped the 2 sanders off with the 2 guys and went to work at the marina.

Me and “Lydia” took hubby breakfast at the marina and then headed to the house to paint the “man cave”. We got there and the paint for the room was not a dark enough gray color. It almost looked white. We went to marina, got hubby debit card and then headed to Lowes. While at Lowes, we got them to mix the paint a little darker grey and bought paint for the 2 spare bedrooms (which I am not giving you ANY clues yet as to what we are doing to them). J We left there and went back to the house.

The 2 guys were sanding the floor and we got to work putting primer in the 2 spare bedrooms. The 2 guys left right before hubby got there and didn’t finish sanding the floors.

Me and “Lydia” got both rooms primered and the man cave completely painted! Hubby got to work putting the stain on the master bedroom floor (that had to sit for 2 hours) so he went to work sanding the kitchen floor while that was drying. Once it was dried, hubby went to work wiping up the stain in the master. Once hubby had that complete, him and Lydia went to work on the kitchen floor. (Before staining both floors, he had to rub a certain type of alcohol on the floors). I almost forgot that step. So after the alcohol was rubbed on, he went to putting the stain on the floor and “Lydia” went to wiping it up. Thank goodness she was there tonight. I was kaput after all the primering and painting.

All in all, hubby had a 21 hour day and me and “Lydia the tattoo’d lady had a 17 hour day.

We had Krystals for dinner because we didn’t have time to come to mother n laws for dinner. She is the best though! (Still) lol Lookie at what was on the floor right when we walked through the door! COOKIES!!

Long day today and a long day tomorrow! Keep ya posted!

Day 29

  13 JAN 2012

Today is Friday the 13th. It has been a pretty good day. Woke up early and got my mother –n- laws kitchen floor swept and mopped and clean our room up a little bit.

Hubby went to the marina and worked all day and I went to the house about lunch time. I took the hand rail off the stairway and got the stairway painted; (with the exception of the corners and a few “touch-up” spots).

Hubby got to the house after he got off work from the marina and put up track lighting in the upstairs room. (The room I call the man cave). That was very time consuming! It is the track lighting that is flexible and it gave him a hard time. For those of you thinking about getting it, he said he will NEVER purchase that kind again. After he did that, he scrapped some of the paint off the master bedroom floor that I dripped on it from paining. I swept the master bedroom floor and then we came home to some YUMMY homemade vegetable soup!

My friend “Lydia” is coming in tonight (she should be here in about an hour) and she will be helping us this weekend. I can’t wait! She can even paint without dripping. Lol I hope to get the spare bedroom painted while she is here. It is going to be very time consuming. I am not posting photos of the 2 spare bedrooms or letting anyone know what I am doing to those until they are complete. I may give a few clues though J
